According to Dr. Peter Attia in his recent bestselling book "Outlive: The Science & Art of Longevity", "peak aerobic cardiorespiratory fitness measured in terms of VO2 Max is the single most powerful marker for longevity". (Pp220), Several current studies also support this statement: JAMA 2018, Mandsager et.al; AM College of Cardiology 2022, Kokkinos et al. The only accurate method to determine ones VO2 Max is breath by breath testing. The VO2 Master device allows testing to be performed in a fitness facility on the cardio equipment of your choice, (ie. stationary bike, treadmill, elliptical trainer, rower, etc), or in the field running, cycling, climbing, etc. Total testing time is 30-60 minutes. Immediate results provide essential training zone metrix including VO2, heart rate training ranges, ventilatory thresholds VT1, VT2, anaerobic threshold plus caloric expenditure in each of the 5 training zones. Recommended training plans to improve VO2 Max are also included in the results. If you are not ready for a maximal effort, then a VO2 Peak Test will take you to 7-8/10 RPE instead of 10/10 while still identifying your training zone parameters and caloric expenditure based on VT1, VT2 and HR ranges.
